Match Report - 14th March 2010
The Bs had an outstanding game against the league division 3 champions elect – Charville Athletic and showed their true potential as a leading team in this division. And all this with just 11 players! The first half was very competitive and pretty even although Charville probably edged it on ball possession. We moved the ball around with some flair and put together some fantastic moves. Our goal came following some wonderful inter passing play which resulted in a ball from Luis being driven home by Russell in the 25min from just outside the 18 yard box to make it one nil at half time. The second half was not so evenly balanced and we came under severe pressure from throw ins and corners. Our resistance finally waned and Charville equalised 50 mins into the game following a long throw which caught out our defence and they rifled home a goal and equaliser. But it was far from over, the Bs had shown a level of industry and work rate befitting of champions in their own right and pressured the Charville goal and defence until Russell slammed home his second and the winner in the 66 minute following a great corner kick from Luis and a knock on towards goal from CJ. The match was all about the players' belief and determination to win. Our work rate and effort on and off the ball was superb - they really played as a team and for each other; covering, tackling, and supporting each other’s play. Individually Steve pulled off a number of amazing saves to keep us in the game, and Kyle had a fantastic game at right back linking up superbly with Francis and Conor on his side. Jay and Joe was very strong in the middle of defence and committed themselves to be first to every tackle and 50:50 ball. Alvernas had a brilliant game at left back showing great composure and flair on the ball. In the middle of the park we played 5 players: Conor on the right and Luis on the left and these two guys were up and down the park all match ensuring that our defence and attacking players were fully supported. In the centre of midfield were Thomas and Francis who were outstanding and often the catalyst of some breathtaking passing football and their support role was worthy of an individual accolade in any other match. Russell played in the centre and linked up with CJ who played a “high” up front role as a lone striker. He often occupied the attention of three Charville defenders at any one time. CJ also had a goal disallowed in the first half! And Russell well he scored both goals and played a real captains’ role in this victory. Needless to say that the man of the match award deservedly went to all 11 players. |
