Hanwell gained their first points of the season with this victory. There was little between the teams but Hanwell took more control in the second half and deserved the win. The Bs played some good football in the first half and produced some great flowing moves from which they went close. But they lost their way after the break and resorted to a long ball game that left them chasing possession and meant that they didn’t create enough to seriously threaten the Hanwell defence.

Kyle started at right back for the first half and produced an impressive performance. His tackling and determination snuffed out several Hanwell advances down their left channel. Ahead of him, Luis also played well and he delivered some great through balls that set up some dangerous attacks. Sid was the target and he made some determined and strong running charges into the Hanwell defence. He was well marshalled by the Hanwell defenders but got in positions to deliver crosses and had one great opportunity to shoot from close range but screwed his shot wide.

The Bs had more of the chances this half and looked stronger and more composed. Russ had three good chances and Adam and Sid also went close. The Bs lost Russ during the half when a strong challenge left him with stud marks down his thigh and he couldn’t continue. Thomas came on to play on the right and Luis went up front. Another neat move sent Thomas away down the right, he sent over a good cross but the Bs couldn’t finish.

Hanwell also had a few chances and tested the Bs backline. Joe and Jay handled these well and Stephen pulled off one great save. At the break it was 0-0.

The Bs brought on Josh at left back in place of Nick. Sid also came off to allow Russ to return to partner Luis up front. Hanwell broke the deadlock six minutes into the half with a goal from a penalty. Hanwell’s attacker broke clear, Joe challenged, both tumbled to the ground and the referee gave a penalty. The teams lined up for it and then there was some confusion as the referee then said it was a free kick on the edge of the box. Hanwell’s players queried this and asked the referee to consult our linesman who confirmed it was a penalty which Hanwell dispatched with a firm low shot.

Shortly after, Adam was hurt in a crunching tackle and limped off. Sid returned and Luis switched to centre midfield. At the same time Francis came off, Thomas switched to the centre, Kyle moved to the right wing and Jordan came on at right back. The play was pretty even and from a well made attack the Bs equalised. Sid raced away down the right, sent over a great cross and Luis scored with a neat header.

But the teams were level for just four minutes. The Bs were too lax in trying to clear danger at the back, Hanwell pounced and were presented with a simple opportunity to tuck the ball home.

Only Luis and Russ had chances this half. Luis’s hit the outside of the post. The Bs brought Nick back on in place of George. Later Adam also returned in place of Luis. But as the half progressed the Bs lost their way. While Hanwell showed good movement which enabled them to link up well and create some good moves, the Bs resorted to playing long balls from the back and constantly lost possession. Playing like this there was no way back.

There weren’t any great individual performances. There was plenty of hard work and determination but the Bs lacked effective play. Kyle took the man of the match trophy as he produced an impressive display at right back and also worked well on the wing.
