First match of the Under 10s season in Division 5 saw a 2-2 draw with Wasps. All the Headstone players played well. Throughout the match they all worked very hard to win the ball and they produced an excellent passing game.
In the first half they had the slope in their favour and put lots of pressure on the Wasps defence. Joe and Daniel were very solid at the back and Jordan Wright made two excellent clearances to keep Wasps at bay. Jordan's kicks down hill were all deep into the Wasps half. In midfield Thomas, George and Jordan Coleman combined well and up front Russell held the ball up well and made good use of George and Jordan on the wings.
Early on Russell had a couple of shots on goal and George had a header that went close. Then Headstone hit Wasps with two excellent goals from George and Russell. George finished a fine move that started with Daniel deep in his half. George produced a superb left foot shot that gave the keeper no chance. Three minutes later Jordan crossed from the right to Russell who turned and shot high into the net. George had two more chances to add to the lead but the half finished 2-0.
In the second half Conor replaced George in midfield. With the slope in their favour Wasps turned the game with two goals in four minutes early in the half. Both goals were similar with high balls from the Wasps defence bouncing into the area which Headstone failed to clear. Headstone looked uncertain each time a high cross or clearance came into the area but still used their possession well to create further chances. Rory replaced Russell up front and he and Conor went close with good efforts.
It was virtually impssible to pick a man of the match as all the players had put their hard work in training into practise and had come close to a fine win. But for a good performance up front and a good goal, Russell Butlin took the award.
