Headstone suffered their heaviest defeat by a strong Wealdstone A team who punished Headstone with excellent passing, good movement and clinical finishing. The game took place at Broadfields, Wealdstone's home ground and they caught Headstone cold from the start with two very quick goals. Headstone were stunned to be behind so early and inside the opening ten minutes they were caught again by an unstoppable looping shot from well outside the area.
But after the early shock Headstone settled and they looked much stronger for the rest of the half. Jordan Wright was confident in goal and his distribution was very strong with long clearances deep into the Wealdstone half. Daniel, Ciaran and Joe battled hard to deny Weadstone further chances. Headstone forced many corners but couldn't take advantage of any of them. Conor, Thomas, Brett and Russell had chances that went close. Russell was particularly unlucky hitting the woodwork twice including a tremendous shot, right on half time, that hit the crossbar and inside of the post but bounced out.
The pattern of the game continued after the break with chances at both ends but then Wealdstone killed off the game with two goals in two minutes. At 0-5 down Headstone might have lost heart but, in typical fashion, they kept battling and were rewarded with two great goals by Brett. But Wealdstone were too strong and as Headstone pushed further forward they caught Headstone with two more goals including one right on the whistle.
Despite letting in seven goals for the first time Jordan Wright was man of the match, for his strong distribution, for making some excellent saves and for encouraging the team throughout the match. The result may be disappointing but the spirit and determination of the players to keep battling was very impressive.
