The pitch was like a swamp and there was torrential rain throughout the match, yet both teams produced an entertaining game with plenty of goals. Parts of the pitch were completely unplayable. Both goals and penalty areas were waterlogged and several passes and shots played into these areas came to a standstill in the mud. In the second half Brett dived full length in the Greenford area to try and score and came out covered head to toe in mud.
Headstone had an advantage from the start when Greenford had only six players to begin the match. Their late arrival turned up midway through the second half. But despite being a player short, they worked really hard and a couple of their players were quite a handful for the Headstone defence and midfield.
After three consecutive defeats Headstone began positively and after only 7 minutes George opened the scoring with a fine shot. Ten minutes later and it looked like the match was over as Headstone scored twice in two minutes. Both goals were almost identical. First Conor crossed from the right and Brett, standing on the goal line, prodded the ball home. Then Conor scored from exactly the same position and Headstone were 3-0 up. Russell, Conor, George and Brett continued to cause Greenford problems but the boggy pitch stopped them adding to the lead. Then in the 18th minute Greenford pulled a goal back with a fine run and shot from the right hand side of the area.
Jordan and Thomas came on in the second half for Russell and George and slotted in well. Headstone had a couple of injuries during the half with Michael and then George (his replacement) both getting knocks. Michael soon recovered and came back on to finish a fine performance in defence, alongside Daniel, which won him the man of the match award. In the 39th minute Brett scored his second of the game and though Greenford got one back 4 minutes later, Headstone ended as worthy 4-2 winners.
