On a rainy day at Harlington, Headstone won their first away match of the season with a fine performance from the whole team.
Russell went back in goal in the absence of Jordan Wright and played superbly. At least four times in the first half he made magnificent saves to deny Harlington and his long clearances from goal put pressure on the Harlington defence.
As in the previous two games, Daniel worked really hard. He commanded the defence and made strong, positive tackles to thwart Harlington’s attacks. Michael, alongside him for his first match of the season, never stopped running and made many good tackles and clearances.
In midfield Jordan, Nathan and Edward ran tirelessly supporting the defence and attack while up front Brett’s pace was a constant threat and he was rewarded with two well taken goals.
The first, after 20 minutes, came from a corner on the left taken by Jordan. Harlington failed to clear as the ball went across the goal and Brett slotted home from 3 yards. Straight after half time Harlington equalised from a penalty given for handball against Nathan although the ball hit him in the face not the hands. Russell had no chance with the well taken shot in the left hand corner.
The winning goal came from a long range free kick taken by Brett from half way inside the Harlington half. His low shot went through the defence and passed the keeper. Chloe came on for Edward in the second half and worked well with Jordan and Nathan in midfield. Nathan was man of the match for his excellent work all over the pitch.
