Match Report - 26 January 2003

This was a closely fought match between two teams who had lost their opening Phase 2 games. Overall Headstone improved on their play last week with better passing and created enough chances to win the game.

Jordan Wright had an excellent game in goal. He produced a series of fine saves to keep Harlington at bay in the first half. Midway through the half Harlington broke through the Headstone defence, produced a good shot on target but Jordan raced across his goal to make an outstanding one handed save that denied Harlington the lead.

Michael and Ciaran starting in defence for the second week running worked well together. Harlington won a number of corners in the first half but they were unable to convert them. In midfield Conor, George and Thomas used the ball well and helped create three good chances for Russell up front. George and Thomas also had shots on goal.

Headstone kicked up the slope in the second half but continued to try and pass the ball. Josh and Brett came on for Ciaran and George. Russell switched to midfield and Brett went up front to test Harlington's defence with his pace. But after 37 minutes Harlington attacked down the right and picked out an unmarked striker in the area whose shot gave Jordan Wright no chance.

Headstone kept battling and Russell, Thomas and Brett had shots on goal. Four minutes from time Russell equalised after a fine attack down the right wing by Conor. Soon after Headstone nearly won the game with a fine move but Brett's shot went just wide. Thomas was man of the match for his excellent play throughout the match.
