Match Report - 8 March 2003
Headstone Manor produced their best ever performance completely dominating Pinnstars for the entire game and finishing with a convincing 3-0 win. They never allowed Pinnstars to threaten them at all and thoroughly deserved their first victory of Phase 2. This was their first home match at Broadfields and both teams benefited from playing on a good flat surface. Headstone dominated from the start. Picking up from their excellent performance against Technicolor last week the whole team passed and moved superbly. Michael and Ciaran were solid at the back, worked well together and never allowed Pinnstars to threaten Jordan Wright's goal. Thomas, George and Conor were everywhere in midfield and, along with Russell up front, they peppered the Pinnstars goal. The breakthrough came after 12 minutes. Thomas took a corner on the right and George timed his run perfectly to slot the ball home with a first time shot. Two minutes later it was 2-0. Another fine move saw George pass the ball through to Thomas who beat the keeper with a fine shot for his first ever goal. He thoroughly deserved it for his excellent play. At the start of the second half Kushal replaced Michael in defence and Jordan Coleman replaced Thomas in midfield. The game continued as before with Headstone controlling the game and, in the second half alone, they won 16 corners. Apart from two occasions when he came out of his goal to clear the ball, Jordan Wright had nothing to do. Kushal was able to move up into midfield and Conor, George, Russell, Kushal and Jordan all had shots on goal. It was Russell who got the final goal in the 38th minute racing into the area and scoring with a fine shot into the corner. George, who never stopped running and battling for the team, and Conor, who played superbly, were joint man of the match winners. |
