Headstone’s first win of the season in their first home match thanks to a great performance by the whole team. St Josephs worked hard but couldn’t contend with constant attacks from Brett, Russell, Jordan and George and the solid defence partnership of Daniel and Thomas.

Russell gave Headstone the perfect start. After just 7 minutes he burst into the area and scored with a fine shot into the corner. Ten minutes later, George made it 2-0. He, Brett and Russell went clean through on goal and George beat the keeper with an excellent shot.

Headstone had further chances in the first half with shots from Brett, Russell and Jordan but couldn’t add to their lead. St Josephs worked hard but rarely threatened Jordan Wright’s goal. However, the only time he was called on he raced to the edge of the area to clear the ball.

In the second half, Headstone used the downhill slope to cause the St Josephs defence many problems. Brett’s pace was too much for them and, with probing passes from Jordan and George, he created six clear chances on goal but just couldn’t score. On another day he would have had at least a hatrick. But he kept trying for the whole match.

Conor, Laura and Jade came on for Jordan, George and Russell. After 43 minutes Conor got on the end of a cross from the left hand side to make it 3-0. But three minutes later St Josephs scored from a brilliant free kick that curled around the wall into the corner of the net. Jordan Wright could do nothing about it. In the last few minutes St Josephs caused a few problems for the Headstone defence but couldn’t score and the game ended 3-1. Thomas was man of the match for an assured performance in defence and midfield.
