Headstone followed their 3-0 win over Pinnstars yesterday with a 4-1 win against St Josephs. The two wins lifted them from bottom of the table to third place which they thoroughly deserved after another impressive performance. St Josephs were a much stronger team than Pinnstars had been yet by half time Headstone held a 3-0 lead.
Brett started up front and caused St Josephs problems breaking quickly and using the ball well. In midfield George, Thomas and Jordan Coleman passed the ball really well creating a host of chances. At the back Kushal and Michael provided another solid pairing, breaking up the St Josephs attacks with good tackles and using the ball superbly.
The opening goal came after only 8 minutes with a good break down the left. Jordan Coleman beat the keeper as he rushed out of goal, crossed the ball and one of the defenders knocked it into his own net. Then George, who never stopped working, linked up brilliantly with the attack and scored two excellent goals. Thomas and Kushal also had good chances in the first half which nearly added to the score.
At half time Conor came on for George and Russell came on for Brett. Shortly afterwards Jordan Coleman hurt his foot and George returned in his place. St Josephs, with the wind behind them, started the second half much stronger and for about ten minutes they pinned Headstone back in defence. But Kushal, Michael and Jordan Wright kept them at bay until the 34th minute when they scored from inside the area.
St Josephs looked to build on this and get back into the game but Headstone got their game together, started to pass as they had earlier and Russell and Conor had good chances to increase the lead. In the 45th minute Russell broke down the left and passed to Conor who scored into an open goal to seal the win. Kushal was man of the match for an excellent performance in defence.
