Match Report - 6 October 2002
This was the first match of the season for the B team playing in the Under 9s Division 5. The match was played in excellent conditions and the weather was warm and dry. Headstone started very brightly and opened the scoring after just 5 minutes. Brett burst into the area and his shot went through the goalkeeper’s legs. Technicolor looked quite shaky at this stage while Headstone were composed and comfortable and looked capable of winning the match without too much difficulty. But two quick goals by Technicolor, after 11 and 13 minutes, changed the shape of the match and gave Technicolor more confidence. However, Headstone continued to play well and remained in contention. Early in the second half Headstone had a great chance to equalise when Conor made a determined run from midfield into the penalty area. His shot was only partially saved and the ball ran loose barely a yard from the goal line. Brett charged in to finish but the goalkeeper and a defender put him off and his shot drifted just wide. After half an hour Nathan and Edward replaced George and Conor. Headstone forced several corners, taken by Jordan Coleman and Brett, but couldn’t score from them. Both teams battled well and it looked as though the game would end 2-1. However, Technicolor scored two goals right at the end to give a rather distorted scoreline that didn’t reflect the performances. Daniel and Jordan Wright were both excellent in defence, George was full of running in midfield and Brett was very determined up front. But the whole team did really well especially as it was their first league match. |
