This was the story of two goalkeepers. Wasps played a huge keeper whose drop kicks carried the entire length of the field and which, in the end, won them their two goals. But at the other end Jordan Wright made some excellent saves including a fantastic save from a penalty. The 2-0 defeat was Headstone's second loss in two days but they had enough good chances to have won the game.
The game was played on a bright sunny morning and the pitch was very firm causing the ball to bounce very high and testing the control of all the players. Jordan Coleman got through on goal very early but his shot was saved by the keeper. Then after just 3 minutes Wasps were awarded a penalty when the ball bounced up and hit Michael's hand. The Wasps keeper took the penalty but his powerful shot was superbly saved by Jordan Wright.
Wasps played the ultimate long ball game with their keeper clearing the entire length of the pitch with his goal kicks. Most were too long for them to reach but they were a real test for Jordan Wright, Daniel and Michael. Jordan Coleman and George worked really well together on the left with neat passing. They both set up Brett with two good chances but Brett couldn't find the target. At the back Jordan Wright made several excellent saves from powerful shots.
In the second half Russell and Thomas came on for George and Conor. The pattern of the game continued with lots of long balls forward by Wasps but Michael and Daniel dealt with them well. Thomas played very well, he had a shot on goal and he and Russell put Brett through twice but he wasn't able to test the keeper. Midway through the half George came back on for Jordan Coleman.
Two identical goals in the 38th and 48th minutes won Wasps the game. Their keeper launched a high kick up field which Headstone allowed to bounce deep into their area and from close range their striker got behind the defence to prod the ball over the line. It was a disappointing finish but for his magnificent penalty save, good clearances and his other fine saves, Jordan Wright was man of the match.
