The Bs second game was played at lunch time with barely a shadow on the pitch. From the start of the match it was apparent that Whitley Bay were a very good team who could control and move the ball around with ease. The Bs found it a struggle to keep possession of the ball, were under a lot of pressure at the back and found Whitley Bay too quick and strong in the challenge.

Whitley Bay took the lead in the 2nd minute and with two goals in a minute late in the half the result looked sealed by half time. After another very short half time break two more goals right at the start of the second half made it 0-5 and it looked like it would be a difficult half for the Bs.

Neither team was helped by a petulant referee who constantly interrupted play for non existent fouls and at one point appeared to send off Glenn Street who was one of the Bs supporters!

The Bs kept plugging away and built a few neat moves but found it hard to work into good attacking positions. The referee provided help awarding the Bs a free kick on the edge of the box that George Moriarty and Thomas Green laid off for Russell Butlin to shoot but the ball flew wide. But Russell produced the gods later with a stunning free kick from 25 yards. He curled the ball high into the far corner and though the keeper got his fingers to the ball there was no way he could keep it out.

Whitley Bay ran out 1-6 winners but the result was put into perspective when the As drew 4-4 with Fisher Athletic who Whitley had beaten 4-1.
