Pitshanger Tournament - 29 June 2003

The A team were invited to this tournament as holders having won it last year. For the second week running they did exceptionally well and were very close to retaining their title.

The Team

This was a small tournament with the group winners going straight into the final. The A team were weakened by injuries to Ryan Hayes, Dhyanesh Patel and James Lane but still won their group convincingly with 3 wins and 1 defeat.

They reached the final where they played Celtic A. This was a close match with little between the teams and at the end they were level at 0-0. The match went into golden goal extra time and was still level at the break. But Celtic clinched it right at the end with a goal that looped over the defence and dropped into the top corner.

The players were understandably devasted but should feel proud of their great performance. They have reached a semi final and a final in the last two tournaments, an excellent record.
