New Windsor Tournament - 20 June 2004We entered two teams in this tournament. The A team won one and drew four of their five matches and went through to the Plate competition. The B team, playing as Headstone Manor Colts, drew three and lost three of their six league matches and didn't get to the knockout stage. The Teams
A Team The A team played in Group A against Bedfont Eagles B, Hillingdon Irish Rangers, Holtspur, Isleworth Colts and United Bracknell FC. They drew four of the matches 0-0 but beat Holtspur 2-0 with goals from Sammy Hawes and Michael Prendeville. This meant they finished with 7 points which took them through to the Plate Competition for the third and fourth placed teams. The A team then took part in the Quarter Finals of the Plate Competition. They had a close match against New Windsor and thanks to a superb golden goal by Sammy Hawes they won through to the Semi Final. In this match they came up against Isleworth Colts who they had drawn against in the Group Stage. The teams had another close match which, again, ended 0-0 after normal time. The game went into extra time and the As nearly won it with a great chance near the end. But it was Isleworth who got the golden goal to win through to the Final. However, in seven matches the golden goal was the only one the As conceded. Congratulations to the all the boys for getting so far. B TeamThe B team played in Group B against Bedfont Eagles A, Golden Eagles, New Windsor Kingfisher Blues, Slough Irish Celtic, Maidenhead and Windsor Comets. All the matches were close encounters but it was the struggle to find goals that cost them points. They lost 0-1 to both Windsor teams and to Bedfont but drew 1-1 against Golden Eagles and Maidenhead and 0-0 against Slough. Nathan Lane and Brett Swinton-Bland got the goals and Jordan Wright made some excellent saves throughout the tournament. Brett went close with a long shot that hit the post and Nathan, Kushal Kotecha, Rory Carolan and Jordan Coleman had shots on target. They finished with 3 points. Thanks to the players for all their hard work and to the parents for their support. |
