| St Josephs Tournament - Saturday 23rd June 2007 |
Headstone Manor Blues Under 13s secured further success at the competitive St Joseph's Tournament last week. Known to be one of the toughest arenas for seven a side football, Headstone met the hosts in the first game in a closely fought match, honours were shared at 1-1. Headstone then played Bessingby Park Rangers and came out 1-0 winners. In the final match of the Group Round, Headstone beat Harringey Borough 3-1.
The quarter final saw Headstone up against their old rivals Harrow St Marys, although we went 1-0 down, the boys raised their game and secured a 4-1 victory. The semi-final matched the Headstone Blues against the other half of the squad Headstone Manor Whites. This was a battle of gladiatorial magnitude and could only be decided by a penalty shoot out which went in favour of Headstone Blues.
The final matched Headstone Blues against their well respected opponents Harrow St Mary's. Headstone took an early lead and looked to be on their way to collecting the trophy, when Harrow St Mary's equalised with the last kick of the game. Four minutes of extra time prevailed and Headstone Manor again scored first to secure the coverted Tournament Cup 2-1. On the final whistle both teams congratualted each other showing excellent sportsmanship after a hard but fairly played game.
