6 September 2008 - Manor Youth TournamentGroup Gamesv Lynne Elite FC (Drew 0-0)Headstone’s first game was against a team from the West Surrey Premier who had competed successfully in the recent Umbro Cup. Lynne FC were never allowed to get into the game with Headstone's power and passing football causing problems The two Ryans in the middle of the park dictated the play and Lynne struggled against Tyrell's play on wide right. Headstone completely outplayed their opposition who were restricted to one shot throughout the game. On another day Headstone's strikers could have had 3 but as the whistle went Lynne’s management acknowledged the quality of the Headstone Team feeling that they had gained a point and Headstone had lost 2. v Charville (Won 3-0)Charville were unlucky to face a Headstone team that had felt they had under achieved in the last game. The quality of the link play and passing was too much. Headstone quickly established a 3-0 lead. To Charville’s credit they never gave up and their impressive central defender was as good as any in the tournament. v Hillingdon Borough (Won 2-1)Headstone continued to impose themselves on the opposition from the start. Headstone passing game and overall strength was too much for Hillingdon and a 2-0 lead was quickly established. At this point the team was reshuffled with a view to the semi final and Hillingdon scored a well taken goal to make the final score 2-1. Semi Finalv AFC Ruislip (Won 4-0)AFC Ruislip had enjoyed an impressive tournament having won two games and drawn one. Ruislip were unlucky to meet Headstone in a rampant mood. Headstone were too strong, the passing and movement were too much for Ruislip. Headstone moved into a 4-0 lead and although Ruislip are a vastly improving team they had given too much away to get back into the game. Finalv Glenister (Lost on penalties, 1-1 aet)Glenister had recently been relegated from the Harrow Premier. Headstone took the game to Glenister and this caused major problems to the opposition. Headstone looked like the most likely to score with both Michael and Liam coming close. On another day Headstone would have been 2-0 up. The breakthrough came with a header from the most unlikely source, Tyrell. Glenister had not looked like scoring but with nearly the last kick of the ball a mix up at the back saw Glenister equalise. Headstone lost the penalty shoot out but could walk away knowing that every opposition manager had commented on the quality and ability of the players in the squad. Overall as finalists, the boys proved that they performed exceptionally well and are ready for the coming season. |
