Tournaments 20096 September 2008 - Manor Youth TournamentThe A team took part in the pre-season 11 a side tournament at Manor Youth and got all the way to the Final. See all the details here. 20 June 2009 - St Josephs Tournament - A team win the CupThe A and B team were in this 6 a side tournament. The As took two teams (Reds and Blues), the Bs had one team (Whites). The Blues were up against Brunswick, Belmont, Glenister and St Jo's and were just one point away from reaching the Quarter Finals. The Reds cruised through their group stage beating Brunswick, St Jo's and Kodak and narrowly losing to LNER thanks to a brilliant display by the LNER keeper who denied the As many certain goals. In the Quarter Final the Reds knocked out Glenister and then in the Semis they overcame AFC Ruislip with a 1-0 win. In the Final the Reds met Brunswick and there was nothing between the teams as it ended 0-0. The penalty shoot out was also tight but a crucial save by keeper Michael Prendeville made the difference as the Reds won 5-4. Well done to the As for grabbing another trophy to follow their Catalonia Cup win last month. The Bs were playing in their first tournament for 5 years and, though they played well, weren't able to create enough chances to make it out of their group. They lost to Semi Finalists AFC Ruislip 0-1, Watford Youth 1-2 and Pinner Albion 1-2. They drew 0-0 against St Jo's. The two goals they scored came from CJ with a stunning shot against Watford and Conor who gave the Bs the lead against Pinner. The star of the show was Stephen in goal who produced a great display with several outstanding saves. The Bs team was Stephen Howden, Joe Jordan, Nick Kyriacou, Shomari Bridgewater, Francis Nkhoma, Conor McBreen, Kyle Giles-Brown and CJ. 5 July 2009 - LNER Tournament - Bs reach Quarter FinalsThe B team had their most successful tournament and went into the final group game with a chance of winning the group. They were in tough group containing a Div 1 team and two Div 2 teams. Starting against AFC Ruislip the Bs had an impressive 2-0 win thanks to goals from Sid and Luis. They then followed this with a 1-0 win against Greenford Celtic with Russ scoring. Their third match was against group leaders LNER who had won three out of three. Though LNER had the best chances the Bs held on for a 0-0 draw. Going into the last game against Glenister from Div 1 the Bs needed a point to claim runners up spot and a win would win them the group. Alas, Glenister saved their best display for this match and won 0-3. The Bs finished in third place but were through to the Quarter Finals as one of the best third place teams. They were up against Pinner Albion A and it was a close fought game that saw the Bs hit the post, have a goal disallowed and have several shots that went very close. But Pinner grabbed the vital goal to win 0-1. Well done to the Bs for a great display and for everyone who supported them. The team was Stephen Howden, Joe Jordan, Jay Shah, Russell Butlin, Luis Meneses Zerpa, Sid Masters, Jordan Coleman and Thomas Green. 5 July 2009 - Potters Bar Tournament - A team win the CupThe A team took two teams to the Potters Bar Tournament to experience playing the best from the Watford, Cheshunt and Mid Herts Leagues. Upon arriving we also saw that Harrow St Marys had made the journey. Shaun managed the Headstone Yellow side and David the Headstone Black side. The group stages saw both Headstone teams achieve the same record . Headstone Yellow beat Harvesters Blue 1-0, Northwood 1-0 and drew 1-1 with both Potters Bar Black and Waltham Abbey Green. Headstone Black best Potters Bar White 1-0 and 3-0 drawing 0-0 with both Boreham Wood and Lea Valley. At the end of the group stages Headstone Black went through at the top of the group as did Headstone Yellow. At this point the Headstone Black team was looking the stronger of the two and Shaun had expressed some disappointment at the way the boys had been playing. Headstone Black faced Harrow St Marys in the Quarter Final and looked to be in control going in at half time 1-0. Harrow St Mary came out a different side in the second half playing some excellent football. The break through came when the ball slipped under the body of the keeper to make it 1-1 and a second was soon to follow. Headstone Yellow faced the winners of Group D, the unbeaten Waltham Abbey. Shaun had told the boys they had under performed. How did they respond? Scoring 6-0 with some outstanding play that attracted praise from on lookers and the management of the other team. The passing of Josh and Jack, the power and pace of Tyrell and the skill of Sam caused havoc with the new boys Bobby and Barow playing their part. The semi final against Harvester Blue again gave Headstone a chance to play quality football. The first chance fell to Harvesters only for them to see Babak tip the ball over the bar. Headstone soon scored the decisive goal that had put them into the final. The final was against Harvester Blue who had knocked Harrow St Marys out 2-0. Headstone were causing problems to the Harvester defence with Tyrell striking fear into the defence. Harvesters scored first after a lapse in concentration. Headstone did not panic Josh was at the heart of a move that allowed Headstone to make it 1-1. Extra time saw how determined Headstone had become. This period was dominated by Headstone who quickly made it 2-1. The next two goals were of the highest order with the best passing football of the day being played. As the whistle went Headstone had won with the final score being 4-1. 11 July 2009 - Kodak Tournament - A team win the CupThe A team took two teams to the Kodak Tournament and emerged triumphant again. This season they have won four tournaments and were runners up once. |
