22 August 2009 - Ryan FC 11 a side TournamentHeadstone travelled across to Waltham Abbey to play in this eleven a side tournament. Sadly a number of teams let down the organisers so it was played on a League basis Headstone faced hosts Ryan FC. This was Headstone's first 11 a side match and the boys looked rusty. Headstone spent long periods camped in the Ryan half but could not find the back of the net. The deadlock was broken by a 30 yard wonder strike by Jack Keeble. Headstone, after beating Ryan FC, had to play Broadwater FC straight away. Broadwater offered a stiffer test and Headstone were forced to raise their game. The first chance fell to Headstone who were unable to take the chances that fell to them. The game finished 0-0 with Headstone regretting the missed chances. Headstone then faced Cheetle Court who gave a spirited performance but lost 2-0. Headstone faced Broadwater in the final. Headstone were rocked by a quick goal by Broadwater. Headstone responded by scoring almost immediately. Broadwater pushed hard again and were rewarded by a second goal. Headstone again raised the tempo and equalised. Headstone maintained the tempo but could not put any of the many chances away. With the score at 2-2 Headstone went into a penalty shot out. Unfortunately Headstone lost 5-4 but it allowed Headstone to look at a number of its new signings and give the boys their first taste of 11 a side for a long time. |
