He keeps the team going." "He has a high work rate, has been a key contributor to the goals the team has scored and has helped minimize goal opportunities for opposing teams. Also since he's joined he's shown a great commitment to the team and proven himself to be an influential player for us this season." "He has come into the team and has shown good leadership, never gives up on the pitch and he is determined to win matches." | 3 more U15 Jack Petchey Award Winners |
For the eighth time our squad has scooped Jack Petchey Awards each winning a £200 prize. Ryan Hayes was chosen for the April Award, CJ was the winner for May and Jay Shah won the award for June. Thanks to all the players for their nominations for the Award.
CJ was chosen because "He has worked hard this season. He is always wanting to improve and is always pushing himself in games to succeed and score and shows good team spirit in matches whether the team is losing or winning by never giving up and keeping the team positive."
Jay was chosen because "He is extremely consistent as he is willing to go into any challenge and is always committed, he also NEVER gives up, for example if he goes into a tackle and the player goes past him, Jay will get straight up use his mind blowing speed to get back and retrieve the ball off the player or help get the ball out of play or away from danger. We call Jay the teams 'vacuum', the name explains itself really he cleans up any mistakes made by him or the other team mates and mostly always the opposition’s play will be broken down by Jay's defending. Overall Jay is very strong and reliable defender who deserves to win the Jack Petchey Award."

| Fame!!!!! |
B team manager Andy Coleman was more than surprised to be phoned up by LBC Radio asking him if he'd like to take part in a programme on Saturday when they would be discussing how Didier Drogba's outburst, during Chelsea's Champions League Semi Final defeat against Barcelona, would effect young footballers. They were after his views as he was a youth football manager.
When Andy asked them how they knew of him, LBC said they found him on the U15s website. Note to any current or potential website advertisers - if LBC can find us amongst the thousands of youth football websites think of how well we could reach your customers!!!
So on Saturday 10th May at lunchtime on LBC's Nick Conrad programme, Andy and Nick discussed the behaviour of top players, his experience of how it effects behaviour towards referees at youth level, the FA's Respect programme, the attitude of the U15B team players (excellent), how using technology would have avoided the disputed decisions in both Champions League semis and protected the referees and the benefits of giving refs microphones so fans can hear their decisions and what the players are saying.
Whether this will be the start of a new life in football punditry for Andy or the shortest radio career in history, only time will tell!!! |
| Josh Lapompe wins fifth U15s Jack Petchey Award |
The A team's Josh Lapompe has won the Jack Petchey Award winning a £300 prize. He is the fifth Under 15s player to scoop the prize. He was chosen as one of the winners for Autumn 2008 because "of his desire to learn off the pitch and willingness to learn. Josh was moved to a position he did not like but never complained. He is now outstanding in that position and has shown the rest of us that with hard work and listening to coaches you can develop new skills. I recently joined the team and Josh made sure that I was introduced to all the players and that I was never left by myself at the beginning. Josh is always smiling makes sure that no one is left out. Even on the pitch he never lets the opposition upset him showing the rest of us the best way of dealing with this is by playing good football." Thanks to all the As for their nominations for the Award.

Russ took the majority of the votes from the players which showed how he much he deserved the award. He was chosen because "He shows good leadership in matches, always has the right attitude whether in matches or training. He never puts players down by discouraging them. Is a very good team player." "He shows brilliant leadership in every match and every training session which helps the team a lot in winning games and even if we are losing he always gets our heads up and motivated. He also is a very caring person on the pitch and off because he can see when someone is down and has a little chat with them to see whats wrong and tries to cheer them up." Thanks to all the Bs for their nominations for the Award.

| The As are crowned Champions |
The Harrow Youth League did their very best throughout this and last season to stop the A team from going up but the lads just kept winning. At the Awards Night the As got their just reward as they received their Championship trophies. There can be few teams that have had to endure such a campaign against them by officials from their league. Yet the players have done what they do best and won again and again to clinch the title.

| Why weren't the A team promoted in 2006-7? |
For the first time we can tell you the story of why our A team are not playing in the Premier Division despite finishing second in Division 1 last season. It's a story that is hard to believe and very frustrating for all of us. Read it here. |
| The League twist the knife into the As yet again |
In case you thought the Harrow Youth League couldn't get any more petty (or potty) here's a final twist in the tale of the As battle for promotion and the missing 9 points...
In June 2008 we received the final verdict from Middlesex FA on the League's appeal against the decision. The League were found guilty, were fined and were told they could not deduct the 9 points from the As. But the League, rather than accepting this, stated that it was now too late to play these matches. So instead, to decide these three unplayed games, they have awarded them as drawn!!! So instead of getting the 9 points (which, with due respect to the other teams, would be the likely outcome considering the As unbeaten record) the As get only 3 points which would mean that they are denied the Championship by 1 point. Petty, vindictive, small minded or an example of sportsmanship and fair play? Isn't the League supposed to set an example to the young players they govern? This is supposed to be a sport!!!! |
