B team Olympics - Final Training Session

They started as Under 8s and, after 9 years, the Bs have now closed for business. On Saturday 1st May they had their final training session and, to mark the occasion, laid on a special finale - The B Team Olympics. Five events to test out all apsects of their skills and prizes on offer for the winners.

Andy, Errol and Doug ran it and we were pleased for a great turn out. The players who took part were Russ, Jordan, Myles, Nick, Kyle, Tom, Stephen, CJ, Joe, Conor, Luis, Francis, Jay (despite being injured), Josh and Ali.

Event 1 - Passing challenge

The players had to make a 15 yard pass through a 1 yard goal. Two passes with their right foot and two with their left. Tom, Conor, Jay and Ali got 3 out of 4 but the winner was Luis who got maximum points.

Event 2 - Heading challenge

The players had to head the ball from 20 yards into a 3 zone target area. Russ, Jordan, Stephen and CJ came close but Ali was the winner here with 4 bullseyes.

Event 3 - Defending challenge

This was a test of the players' defensive qualities. Each player had to defend a 10 yard zone against 3 players attacking them in turn. 5 points were awarded for clean tackles and 3 points for forcing the attacker out of the zone. Defenders lost a point if the attacker won. Not surprising to see our defenders do best - Russ, Joe and CJ did well. But there was a first place tie between Josh and Stephen which meant a play off which Stephen won.

Event 4 - Free kick challenge

Here the players had to take a free kick from 20 yards around a wall and past another wall in the 6 yard box acting as a keeper. 5 points awarded for a goal, 3 points for hitting the woodwork and 1 point if saved by the 'keeper'. Best were Luis and Jordan who tied with maximum points. Luis won the play off, his second triumph.

Event 5 - Penalty challenge

We finished with a penalty shoot out with a difference. Not only did they have to beat Stephen but to get 5 points they had to score in the corners. If they missed the goal they lost a point. Kyle and Ali did well but there was a 3 way tie between Russ, Nick and Francis. They went into a sudden death shoot out which Russ won.

Final placings

Ali was the overall winner with 53 points. Behind him the top five were: Luis (52), Russ (48), Joe (45), CJ and Jordan (tied on 44).
